50 years ago, Sir Hakimi opened the first Hakim Optical retail location. In the 50 years since then, the Hakim brand has grown to over 160 retail locations and 120 one-hour labs across Canada. While we celebrate this amazing milestone, we are already looking to the future and what we can bring to our customers in the many years to come.
From Humble Beginnings
Sir Hakimi got his start in the optical industry by grinding magnifying glasses in Iran when he was just a boy. After traveling to Europe to continue learning his craft, grinding lenses in Germany and camera lenses in Switzerland, he eventually left for Canada. Arriving in Toronto, Sir Hakimi immediately began working for optical shops around the city and eventually opened his own store, famously selling his eyewear for only one dollar. From there, the Hakim Optical brand grew steadily year after year to become the empire it is today.

Sir Hakimi’s unwavering vision is the true inspiration behind our passion, skill and commitment to excellence and is what has brought Hakim Optical to the forefront of Canadian eyeglass manufacturing. As we look to the next 50 years, we will never waver in our promise to provide the best quality lenses to our customers.
Hakim Optical is committed to continuing supporting philanthropic organizations, such as the Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre (CLERC). We have pledged to donate an additional 100,000 pairs of frames, reading glasses and sunglasses by the end of the year to CLERC who will then distribute the glasses to the more than 280 million people living with vision impairments in developing countries.
