Eye Exams for Kids

Parents go to extensive lengths to make their children’s lives easier and provide them with every opportunity they may not have had.

The most important thing in every parent’s life is his or her child.

Parents go to extensive lengths to make their children’s lives easier and provide them with every opportunity they may not have had.

That’s why it’s so important to get your child’s eyes checked! Check your provincial healthcare plan for details.

Children can sometimes go through years of undiagnosed vision problems causing problems in school, sports, and even in their social life. You may have given them every opportunity to succeed but without proper vision, problems are bound to arise.

For example, in school, an inability to see the blackboard can affect their ability to take notes and cause them to fall behind in class. If they sit further back in one class they may have to squint, putting stress on their eyes and even causing headaches – just to add one more distraction.

You may be under the impression that if there’s a problem with your child’s vision, they would tell you themselves or you would notice them squinting. Unfortunately, it’s not always that simple.

Don’t gamble your child’s vision, get prescribed today!

Call a location near you for details.

How much do you charge for a child’s eye exam. I have s 16 year old in Mississauga who has been placed with a legal guardian out of the home for safety reasons. She has never had her eyes checked. I was wondering if you would coonsidef checking her eyes at a discounted rate and providing prescription glasses at a discounted rate. This young lady is a twin and these girls have no one. Whatever help your company can offer would be much appreciated!

      Hi Susan,

Luckily, in Ontario, children under the age of 19 are covered by the provincial health plan for eye exams. Call your local Hakim Optical to book an appointment.

Hi, do you have any promotional packages for kids glasses? I have a 3 years old boy and he got the specs 2 months ago. He has broken 3 glasses already and 4th one he is having on. It is really expensive to buy new glasses every now and then. So we need some package like buy one get one free etc.

      Hi Noor,

We currently have our back to school promotion running. When you buy two pairs of Hakim Optical Designer eyeglasses (which come in children’s sizes too), you get 50% off!

Hopefully that fits what you were looking for.

No, you don’t need a doctor’s referral for an eye exam. You do need your prescription before you come shopping though. Depending on the province you live in the eye exam may also be covered.

      We hope that helps!

I was wondering if you have any information on how newcomers to Canada could obtain glasses for their children keeping in mind that they may not be covered by OHIP in Ontario.

      Hi Jennifer,

Yes! We do have children’s frames. However, our selection can vary between locations.

It’s best to call the location before you go to make sure they have the proper frames in-stock.

      We hope that helps.

      Hi Lyndzii,

Ontario Works can provide you coverage for specific eyeglasses. Here is a snippet from the City of Toronto’s website:

“If you need glasses and are receiving Ontario Works benefits, provide your caseworker with a photocopy of your prescription. Your caseworker will send you a voucher for a pair of glasses and a list of locations where you can use it. The voucher is valid for 30 days.”

      We hope that helps!

If you received your prescription at one of our Hakim Opticals, your information should be on file. Otherwise eye exams are usually around $75.

    Hi,

I’ve been trying to book an eye exam through your scheduling page, however nothing comes up for Vancouver. Do you no longer do eye exams at your Vancouver locations?

      Hi Steve,

We don’t offer online booking for the Vancouver locations because the doctors schedules have constantly been changing. If you could please call your nearest location, they will book it for you based on the current schedule.
