Tips for Adding Contact Lenses to Your Routine

Many people that need corrective eyewear alternate between glasses and contacts. Having both options available gives a person the flexibility to switch depending on their mood, planned activity or personal style. If you’re new to contacts—or thinking about adding them to your routine—remember to book an optometrist appointment and give yourself plenty of time to adjust!

See an Optometrist
Since contacts sit right on your eye, contact lenses require a different prescription than glasses. You’ll need to book an appointment with an optometrist to get a new prescription and go over any concerns about wearing contact lenses. Once you have a contact lens prescription, an optician can help you pick out the right lenses and show you how to put them in and take them out.

Give Yourself Plenty of Time
While getting used to properly put in and take out lenses, make sure to leave ample time in the morning to get ready. Sometimes it will take a few tries to get it right and you don’t want to be rushed through the process.

Practice Good Habits
It’s important to start off with good habits. Always wash your hands before handling contact lenses, keep the case sterile, clean lenses before they go into a case for the night and be sure to replace contacts as instructed.

Having the ability to switch from glasses to contacts can be extremely beneficial as sometimes you want the flexibility that comes from wearing contacts. Make sure you’ve seen an optometrist to get a new prescription, an optician to help fit them and be patient while you get used to your new lenses!
