The holiday travelling season is almost here and many people will be heading to the airport to get to their destinations. If you wear glasses or contacts, take a moment to read through these tips to ensure you have a fun and stress-free holiday season.
A common question about flying is whether you’re allowed to pack a full-sized contact lens solution. If you check your luggage, a full-sized bottle should be ok (just be sure to place it in a resealable bag to prevent spills). For carry-on luggage, both the TSA and Government of Canada make exceptions to the 100mL rule for medically necessary, non-prescription liquids, but you must declare it to the screening officer and the final decision rests with them. If you want to err on the side of caution, either pack the solution in your checked luggage or purchase a travel-sized bottle for your carry-on.
Wear Glasses for Long Flights
If you normally wear contacts, you might want to wear glasses for long (or overnight) flights—especially if you’re planning on napping. Falling asleep with contacts can be extremely uncomfortable and could cause irritation or infection.
Pack Extra Contacts/Glasses in Carry-On Luggage
You should always bring an extra set of contacts and glasses on a trip. However, we always recommend that you pack your backup pairs in your carry-on luggage, just in case the checked baggage is lost along the way.
Bring Rewetting Drops or Artificial Tears
Planes can be extremely dry and you might notice that you’re having issues with dry eyes. Make sure to stay hydrated during the flight and have rewetting drops or artificial tears to provide relief.
Make sure to start your holiday vacation on the right foot and ensure your flight is safe and comfortable!
