An eye exam is the only way to determine if your vision needs to be corrected with glasses or contacts. However, if you start to notice a change in your vision — and are experiencing the following symptoms — you should book an eye appointment as soon as possible, as it’s likely you’ll need glasses.
Blurred Vision
If you notice that it’s becoming harder to see, either closeup or far away, you’ll likely need corrective eyewear. Our eyes and vision are in constant flux and as we age, there’s a good possibility that you’ll need glasses to correct nearsightedness or farsightedness.
Eye Squinting
When we squint, the shape of the eye changes and restricts the amount of light that reaches the eye — both of these things help us to see better temporarily. If you find that your squinting more frequently, it could be a sign that your vision is deteriorating and you’re subconsciously trying to compensate for poor eyesight.
Eye Strain and Headaches
Tired eyes can lead to headaches and are a sign that you might need corrective eyewear. As eyes strain to see better, they get overworked and can lead to painful headaches. Make sure to schedule an eye exam if you’re suffering from this type of pain.
Difficulty Seeing at Night
Sometimes, a sign of declining eyesight first shows itself at night. If you need glasses, often the first symptom will be difficulty seeing at night — especially while driving. There are a number of reasons why your vision would be affected at night, but many times can be corrected with glasses.
Annual eye exams are important to monitor your eye health but if you notice that you’re struggling with your vision, make an appointment with your eye doctor right away.
