Donate eyeglasses at any Hakim Optical store location
According to estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO) Prevention of Blindness and Deafness Program, about 285 million people worldwide are visually impaired. About 90% live in developing countries where access to glasses is limited.
Hakim Optical has partnered with Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre (CLERC) to collect eyewear that can be recycled and distributed to people in Africa, the Philippines and the Caribbean.
CLERC brings prescription eyeglasses directly to those in need who otherwise would not afford glasses to improve their vision. For children, clear vision allows a better chance to succeed in their education and promote healthier development. Adults with eyeglasses will have greater employment opportunities due to their improved vision. For seniors with vision problems, glasses provide independence and less reliance on others.
Even with advancements in technology and medicine — far too many people globally live with blindness or impaired vision.
Currently, there is a need for:
- Prescription reading glasses.
- Single vision or bifocal eyeglasses.
- Children’s glasses.
- Prescription safety glasses.
- Prescription and non-prescription sunglasses for children and adults.
Hakim Optical is proud to partner with the CLERC. To donate eyeglasses, simply drop off your prescription eyewear or sunglasses at any of our 160 locations across Canada, and we will ensure it reaches someone in need.
You can help by donating any eyewear that is no longer needed. We have over 160 locations across the country that are currently accepting eyewear donations. Simply drop off your prescription eyewear or sunglasses at any retail location and we’ll ensure it reaches someone in need.
